There’s no fee involved when transferring personalised plates to an immediate family member including your spouse/defacto, son, daughter, mum or dad.
If you’re buying or selling a personalised plate privately, you’ll need to fill out a Transfer Application form and lodge it at the Department of Transport and Main Roads (a fee of $114.20 will apply for transfers that are not between immediate family). Please note that this fee is subject to change as it is a Department of Transport determined fee, not PPQ. Forms require signatures from the buyer and seller and can only be processed at Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centres or Agencies.
For Retro/Customised Plates, you can only transfer if they’re being transferred along with the current registration. Alternatively, you can personalise these plates for a small fee and transfer them whenever you like. More information on Retro and Customised Plates can be found here.
